Leylah Fernandez wins Singapore Open

Canada's Leylah Fernandez captured her first title of the season with a 7-5, 6-0 win over Australia's Talia Gibson in the women's singles final at the Singapore Tennis Open on September 27.

The Laval, Que., native won the last nine games to secure the win in one hour 38 minutes. Fernandez dropped only one set across her five matches in the tournament.

Fernandez had five aces and won 6 of 12 available break points. She made quick work of the second set, winning 81.8 per cent of her first serve points.
