The Indian government has issued a notice to Meta, halting WhatsApp's rollout of a new username feature pending consultations. The feature allows users to connect via unique usernames instead of phone numbers, aiming to enhance privacy. 

Officials are reviewing its privacy, security, and misuse risks amid concerns about potential online fraud and difficulties in identifying fraudulent accounts. Meta must provide a detailed explanation within three days, and the launch will be paused until the government completes its assessment.
