The Cabinet is actively considering several proposals to enable Sri Lankan citizens living abroad to vote in elections.

Minister Vijitha Herath said one proposal would allow Sri Lankan citizens to cast their votes in person at Sri Lankan diplomatic missions in their respective countries on election day. Another proposal recommends introducing a digital voting system.

The proposals have been submitted by a Cabinet subcommittee appointed to examine voting arrangements for Sri Lankans living overseas. The subcommittee has prepared its recommendations after consulting the Election Commission and other stakeholders.
