US govt tells Anthropic to give Mythos to select American companies

The US government has partially lifted restrictions on Anthropic's advanced AI model, Mythos 5, allowing access only to select trusted US organizations involved in critical infrastructure, excluding most global users including India. 

This follows a suspension of Mythos 5 and Fable 5 over national security concerns that advanced AI could be exploited by hostile actors. Critics argue the process lacks transparency and grants excessive control to the government. Similar restrictions affect OpenAI's GPT-5.6, delaying wider AI model release amid ongoing security-focused regulation.
