Sri Lankan Delegation Participates in ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting

Sri Lanka’s high-level representatives have reaffirmed the country’s commitment to strengthening the principles and objectives of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) during the ASEAN Regional Senior Officials’ Meeting held in Manila last week.
The Sri Lankan delegation was led by M.R.K. Lenagala, Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism.
Delegates highlighted ASEAN’s role as an important platform for dialogue, confidence-building, diplomacy and cooperation among countries in the Southeast Asian region.
Sri Lanka also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening ASEAN’s principles and achieving its objectives.
The delegation recalled Sri Lanka’s contributions since 2007 and expressed strong interest in becoming a Sectoral Dialogue Partner while maintaining closer cooperation with ASEAN.
Representatives also highlighted Sri Lanka’s contributions to ASEAN activities between 2023 and 2026, including initiatives related to nuclear disarmament, security education and disaster relief.
Drawing on Sri Lanka’s experience in conflict management and peacebuilding, the delegation further expressed interest in co-chairing the ASEAN Peacekeeping Experts’ Working Group during the 2026-2029 period.
