Avi Lewis wins NDP leadership

Avi Lewis has won the leadership of the federal NDP at the party's convention in Winnipeg. Lewis's win was a decisive first-ballot victory, winning 56 per cent of the vote.

By comparison, former leader Jagmeet Singh won 53 per cent in 2017.

Lewis invited his fellow leadership candidates and the NDP caucus to join him on stage.

All five leadership candidates embraced each other on the stage as the room broke out into chants of "NDP! NDP!"
