Infection can cause deadly liver abscess
14-Aug-2025.

A liver abscess is a localised collection of pus in the liver, often caused by infection. It can develop following injury to the liver or due to infections spreading through the bloodstream, particularly via the portal vein.
The most common types are pyogenic (bacterial) and amoebic (parasitic) liver abscesses. Less commonly, fungi or parasites like Echinococcus cause liver cysts that may mimic abscesses.
Liver abscess can be just as dangerous as hepatitis or cirrhosis, but it doesn’t always shout for attention.Sometimes symptoms are vague muscle aches, loss of appetite, or general malaise but other times the infection hits hard with high fever and chills.
