Truth Behind Chemmani Mass Graves Must Be Revealed – Sumanthiran
30-Jul-2025.

Truth cannot be concealed while attempting to foster reconciliation.
Therefore, the government must uncover and disclose the facts regarding the mass graves, said President’s Counsel and MP M.A. Sumanthiran.
On 28 July, Sumanthiran and attorney Kesavan Sayanthan visited the excavation site of the Chemmani mass graves.
Speaking to the media afterward, Sumanthiran noted that skeletal remains of young individuals have been recovered, buried under suspicious circumstances. These facts must be investigated.
He added that mass graves have been discovered not only in Chemmani but also in Kokuthuduwai, Mannar, Matale, and parts of the south.
Despite these discoveries, Sri Lanka still lacks adequate forensic mechanisms to investigate them.
Sumanthiran emphasized the need for international expertise and oversight to preserve and investigate the remains appropriately, without interference.
