Bilateral Talks Between the Presidents of Sri Lanka and the Maldives

Bilateral discussions between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake of Sri Lanka and President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu of the Maldives took place on July 28, 2025, at the Maldivian Presidential Office.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu extended a warm welcome to President Dissanayake upon his arrival at the Presidential Office.
After signing the guest book, the two leaders participated in an official photograph session.
Following that, the bilateral talks commenced.
At the conclusion of the discussions, two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed.
These included an MoU between the Maldives Foreign Service Institute (FOSIM) and the Bandaranaike International Diplomatic Training Institute of Sri Lanka, and another agreement regarding mutual legal assistance.
These agreements are expected to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation across various sectors. The first agreement aims to enhance mutual legal support in handling criminal matters.
The second MoU is focused on diplomatic training cooperation and the sharing of information and documents between the two institutions.
The agreements were exchanged by Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, and Vijitha Herath, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism of Sri Lanka.
Following the exchange of agreements, Presidents Dissanayake and Muizzu made statements to the media regarding the state visit.
