Rajasthan's Minister of State Jawahar Singh Bedham on Jun 14 directed the state's police department to replace Urdu and Persian terms in official documentation with Hindi or English alternatives.

In the letter issued to the Director General of Police, Jawahar Singh Bedham ordered the police to initiate the process of reviewing and replacing Urdu and Persian words currently used in official police documents, reports, notice boards and communication with Hindi terminology.

"Due to the lack of knowledge of Urdu/Persian among police personnel, complainants, and the general public, these words are often misunderstood or misinterpreted, leading to delays in justice," the minister stated in the letter written in Hindi.
