Ready to Work with Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi: ITAK and DTNA Jointly Announce
10-Jun-2025.

"Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi should join us, respecting the mandate given by the Tamils with the expectation that Tamil national parties should travel together in unity, and form an alliance with us, who have formed an alliance based on Tamil nationalism. If they come forward, we are ready to act with concessions by giving them the necessary positions. Otherwise, forming an alliance with an anti-Tamil national party is completely contrary to the people's mandate," the Tamil National Council and the Democratic Tamil National Alliance have jointly announced.
A special press conference was organized at Gajendra Kumar's residence in Colombo on Jun 6. Commenting on this, Gajendrakumar pointed out that the false news that Siddharth and Suresh Premachandran were going to meet Douglas Devananda was spread with the aim of discrediting the alliance between the Tamil National Forum and the Democratic Tamil National Alliance. He also said that while Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi met Douglas Devananda and sought support to form the government in the local government councils, the newspapers that published fake news about him were in favor of the Tamil National Party.
'The people have given great support to the Tamil National Parties in the recently held local government council elections. Accordingly, we have respected the people's mandate and formed an alliance based on principles. The Tamil National Party should have also come forward to form an alliance based on principles like us. Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam expressed his regret that the People's Commission has gone into negotiations to form an alliance with a party that is hostile to Tamil nationalism, which is completely contradictory.
"Nor was the alliance between them made with the intention of marginalizing the Tamil Nationalist Party," he said.
"The MoU signed between them cannot be rejected by any party that emphasizes and loves Tamil nationalism." He also pointed out that "the MoU signed between them cannot be rejected by any party that emphasizes and loves Tamil nationalism."
"Not only that, but the Tamil Nationalist Party should also join hands with them by accepting their agreement that emphasizes principle-based consensus," Gajendrakumar stressed, adding that "if they join hands, they are ready to make concessions by giving them the necessary positions."
"Meanwhile, Telo leader and Member of Parliament Selvam Adikkalanathan, who participated in the aforementioned media conference on behalf of the Democratic Tamil Nationalist Alliance, said that the people who voted in the elections The mandate is that the Tamil national parties should work together in unity. If we continue to work separately, the Northern and Eastern provinces will again fall into the hands of the National People's Party (NPP). If we make that mistake again, the Tamil people will not forgive us. Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) should understand our position that we are ready to travel together with compromise, he stressed.
