09-Aug-2025.

The Centre for Alternative Policies has urged Justice Minister Harsha Nanayakkara to introduce legal and structural reforms to support an independent, impartial, and victim-centered approach to addressing mass grave incidents like Chemmani.
In a letter sent by Dr. Pakiasothy Saravanamuttu, Executive Director of the center, it emphasized the need for expertise and resources to ensure proper investigations. It called for enhanced forensic capacity, DNA testing, and international monitoring.
The center also called for psychological support for victims' families, allocation of resources for ongoing legal processes, and ensuring that institutions like the Office on Missing Persons and the Human Rights Commission operate free of political interference.
