Canada Has a Moral Obligation to Listen to the Affected – Conservative Party Leader
30-Jul-2025.

The Conservative Party of Canada’s leader Pierre Poilievre has stated that evidence found in the Chemmani mass graves confirms that the missing loved ones of Canadian Tamils did not disappear accidentally during the war but were forcibly abducted, silenced, and buried in secrecy.
He also stressed that Canada has a moral obligation to listen to those who survived crimes against humanity and to stand firm in the pursuit of justice.
Marking the 42nd anniversary of Sri Lanka’s ‘Black July’ riots, Poilievre issued a statement affirming Canada's continued pressure to ensure accountability for crimes against humanity and recognition of the Tamil genocide in Sri Lanka.
Poilievre reiterated that evidence emerging from the Chemmani mass graves, including remains of children, echoes the trauma of 1983 and provides fresh proof of the atrocities committed against Tamils.
