Malayalam journalist and award-winning author S Jayachandran Nair dies at 85

Malayalam writer and senior journalist, S Jayachandran Nair, known for reshaping Malayalam magazine journalism died on Thursday at the age of 85 at his residence in Bengaluru. Nair, was undergoing treatment for age-related ailments and died at 2.50 pm, sources close to him confirmed.

Nair's literary contributions are vast, with numerous books to his name. His autobiography, Ente Pradakshina Vazhikal, won the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award in 2012. His work Mounaprararthana Pole, a study of filmmaker G Aravindan, won the National Award for Best Book on Cinema in 2018. Nair also wrote the script for the critically acclaimed film Piravi, directed by Shaji N Karun, which won several awards.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed deep condolences on Nair's demise, describing him as a remarkable individual whose contributions to literature, cinema, and literary journalism were invaluable. He highlighted Nair's literary studies, especially his work related to Piravi, which brought him national acclaim.
