Bill Gates privately donated $50 million to Kamala Harris campaign

For years, Bill Gates has chosen to be non-partisan and avoided funding or otherwise supporting presidential candidates. This time, however, the billionaire has decided to donate $50 million to a non-profit organisation that is supporting Harris in the close race against her Republican rival and former president Donald Trump, the New York Times reported.

Gates, however, has not publicly endorsed Harris and his donation to the non-profit organisation, Future Forward, will likely be kept under wraps as it has a “dark money” status, keeping its donors under the garb of anonymity, the publication reported.

In response to the New York Times report, Gates noted that "this election is different" but did not directly address whether he had donated to the Harris campaign. Neither did he directly endorse Harris, underscoring his bipartisanship.

“I support candidates who demonstrate a clear commitment to improving health care, reducing poverty and fighting climate change in the U.S. and around the world,” Gates told The New York Times. “I have a long history of working with leaders across the political spectrum, but this election is different, with unprecedented significance for Americans and the most vulnerable people around the world.”
