The Centre on Sunday declared Tehreek-e-Hurriyat an Unlawful Association under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The organisation was earlier headed by deceased separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the outfit was involved in "forbidden activities to separate Jammu and Kashmir from India and establish Islamic rule." "The group is found spreading anti-India propaganda and continuing terror activities to fuel secessionism in Jammu and Kashmir," Amit Shah said.
"Under PM Narendra Modi's zero-tolerance policy against terrorism, any individual or organisation found involved in anti-India activities will be thwarted forthwith," Amit Shah said on X.
