The Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) has decided to send a letter to Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha through Indian Consul Sai Murali in Jaffna regarding the Thiruvalluvar Cultural Centre in Jaffna.

Commenting on the matter, Acting Leader of ITAK C.V.K. Sivagnanam stated:

The issue concerning the Jaffna Thiruvalluvar Cultural Centre was discussed during a recent meeting of the party’s central committee. The party had also previously met Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha and expressed its concerns.

He stated that the Thiruvalluvar Cultural Centre building in Jaffna should be handed directly to the Jaffna Municipal Council. However, advisory committees regarding the use of floors and sections of the building could be appointed at the local level.

He further stated that attempts at joint administrative control over the building should be avoided.

ITAK representatives are expected to meet the Indian Deputy High Commissioner in Jaffna next week to further clarify and discuss the matter, and a formal letter will also be forwarded to the Indian High Commissioner through him.
