UN Human Rights Council’s 59th Session to Begin on June 16
10-Jun-2025.

The 59th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) is scheduled to commence on June 16 and will continue until July 9.
The session, to be held in Geneva, will begin with a report by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, on the global human rights situation.
However, the agenda and schedule of the session do not include any items specifically related to Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, the High Commissioner is expected to make an official visit to Sri Lanka on June 23, during the course of the session.
This proposed visit has drawn criticism and opposition from both domestic and international stakeholders.
In this context, it has been indicated that the High Commissioner’s oral report on Sri Lanka will instead be presented during the 60th session of the Human Rights Council, which is scheduled to take place in September.
Discussions are also expected to be held during that session on the possibility of introducing a new resolution concerning Sri Lanka.
