1,289 Navy deserters legally discharged during amnesty

This general amnesty was applicable only for sailors, except all Artificers, Professional Medical and Professional Dental sailors

Nearly 1,300 naval personnel, who were absent without obtaining leave have been legally discharged during the general amnesty period declared from 20th April to 20th May 2024, Sri Lanka Navy said.

This general amnesty was applicable only for sailors, except all Artificers, Professional Medical and Professional Dental sailors, who have been absent without leave, to obtain official discharge, it further said.

Accordingly, a total of 1,289 personnel including 1,254 naval personnel who were absent without leave and an additional 35 naval personnel who are currently overseas and absent without obtaining leave, were official discharged during this general amnesty period, according to Sri Lanka Navy.
